Noise protection for your garden and balcony
When the weather finally gets warmer, we all love to spend time outdoors. If you have a balcony or garden, you obviously want to enjoy a quiet and relaxed time there. However, if your house is near a busy street or in a densely settled area, finding peace and quiet is rather difficult without additional noise protection, if only because also your neighbors tend to be outside on warm days and balmy summer evenings. Noise or conversations next door are sometimes perceived as rather bothersome, making it almost impossible to relax, and may even prompt you to retire inside against your wish.
We have the ideal solution for you. At soniflex, we offer noise-control panels that allow you to build your own sound insulation walls and achieve a significant noise reduction. This provides the peace and quiet that you are longing for in order to truly relax. In many cases, increased privacy is the main reason for our customers to install protective partitions on their balcony or patio and/or in their garden. Partition walls equipped with soniflex materials not only provide efficient sound insulation, but also protect against wind gusts and serve as privacy screens, which should not be underestimated.
Installation
On request, nearly all our products can be delivered with self-adhesive rear faces, enabling easy, clean and time-saving installation – perfect for retrofit applications in rooms that are already in use.
Noise control
Thanks to their open-cell structure, our noise protection materials absorb sound waves and effectively attenuate bothering noise. A satisfactory result can already be achieved by lining 30 to 50 % of the ceiling and wall surfaces.
Fire protection
Many of our noise-control products are classified as flame-retardant according to DIN 4102 or DIN EN 13501. Please contact your local authorities in advance for information about the required fire protection class.
How to implement noise protection on the balcony or in the garden?
A particularly important component of noise protection is sound absorption. This means that an acoustically effective material absorbs incident sound waves and thus reduces the noise level. The noise is no longer reflected, but absorbed into the material. The second important factor is sound insulation. The noise barrier installed forms a so-called "sound dam", which prevents the sound waves from propagating further.
With our materials and a bit of creativity, you can design a visually attractive noise barrier. You can use wood panels or aluminum profiles, for instance, which also serve to mechanically fix the sound insulation material and protect the edges. After installation, the surface can then be masked with fence fabric, if desired, or ivy or other climbers can be planted that will overgrow the structure. An air- and sound-permeable cover will only slightly reduce the sound absorption effect.
How should the noise barrier be constructed?
First things first: In general, the sound-absorbing surface must always be located on the side of the noise source. Therefore, do not cover the surface of the noise barrier completely, as otherwise the sound waves cannot be absorbed and attenuated.
While a privacy screen is used to protect against glances from neighbors or passers-by and is therefore always positioned very close to the balcony and patio, a noise protection wall is most effective when it is installed close to the street or other noise source. Hence it is built directly on the edge of the property or the balcony. It is important that the partition walls are constructed flush and without openings to prevent sound waves from penetrating.
