soni COMFORT
Edges: without beveled edges | Thickness: 30 mm
soni COMFORT is a very hard-wearing sound absorber made of a white PES non-woven fabric with exceptionally good sound-absorption capacity. In addition, soni COMFORT offers excellent fire-resistance values. soni COMFORT has been tested successfully according to the DIN 4102 fire safety standard and is classified as fire-retardant (B1). Therefore it is the material of choice for all applications requiring both an effective noise reduction and full compliance with fire safety regulations. When used as a ceiling element, soni COMFORT also fulfills the impact-resistance requirements according to DIN 18032-3 and is ideally suited for use in sports facilities and gymnasiums. What is more, soni COMFORT is aging-resistant, free of mineral fibers and physiologically perfectly safe. All this makes soni COMFORT a true all-rounder for effective sound-conditioning measures in a wide variety of room types. For covering entire wall or ceiling surfaces we recommend using soni COMFORT F. While soni COMFORT has plain edges, soni COMFORT F has beveled edges all around (10 x 10 mm), creating a beautiful visual effect when installed edge to edge. Additional advantage: The resulting pattern helps conceal any uneven patches on the ceiling or wall. If necessary, soni COMFORT and soni COMFORT F can be cut to the desired size and shape with a carpet knife or a keyhole saw with a blade suited to cutting soft materials. Description

Noise control in productions halls | workshops

Noise is increasingly identified as one of the strongest stress factors at the workplace. Especially in large production halls with numerous loud machines, the noise level can be unbearably high. This not only creates a counter-productive working environment, but also can have a range of negative effects on health. Permanent noise pollution makes concentrated work more difficult and also increases the risk of accidents. Workplace guidelines and the applicable noise protection regulations therefore require that the noise level at workplaces be reduced as much as possible.

Our special acoustic products for production halls and workshops promote a pleasant, motivating and safe working atmosphere. There are multiple applications and uses. For instance, areas where noisy machines are located can be “fenced off” acoustically. Or noise control products can be installed on ceilings and walls to reduce the level of sound reflection. This shortens the reverberation time and thus reduces the overall noise volume to a tolerable level.

Noise reduction in a work space

After sound-proofing a work station in his workshop with our material, the client told us:

As we use compressed-air screwdrivers in our workshop, we had a serious problem with high-frequency noise. Since we did not want to wall off the work spaces completely, we decided to build a kind of cubicle lined with sound-absorbing noise protection material around each individual screwdriver.

This measure helped reduce the noise emitted by the compressed-air power screwdrivers to a tolerable level, especially in the high-frequency range. Measurements at about 1 m distance behind the cubicles showed a noise reduction of about 5 to 6 decibels.

The cubicles are made from plywood and 30-mm thick soni WAVE sound protection foam glued to the inner surfaces using soniflex special adhesive. The soni WAVE noise reduction panels are easy to cut with a sharp carpet knife, and applying the soniflex special adhesive is also no rocket science. The sealed surface of the noise reduction panels makes blowing off any dust accumulations easy.

Sound deadening of a test bench

After sound-proofing a cavitation test bench with soniflex material, the Department of Materials Sciences at a German University reports:

To reduce the noise of a cavitation test bench, we lined the machine’s housing with soni WAVE sound absorber material. Ultrasonic test benches like this one emit very unpleasant high-frequency noise. So some type of acoustic insulation was needed. Now that the housing is lined with soni WAVE noise protection panels, the high-pitched noises are hardly audible anymore when the housing doors are closed.

Cutting and installing the soni WAVE acoustic foam panels was really easy – and we are absolutely satisfied with the sound-insulation and sound-attenuation result achieved by this simple measure.

Noise insulation of a machine housing

After the successful sound deadening of a machine housing, our customer reports:

During the test run of a validation machine prior to customer acceptance, there were complaints about the high noise level that the machine produced when running. The machine’s metal housing provided no protection against the noise of the machine’s drive. On the contrary, the cover was vibrating too.

To dampen the solid-borne noise carried by the metal housing and reduce the overall noise level at the same time, the customer lined the inside of the metal housing with soni COMPOSITE 32-mm sound-deadening panels. The heavy layer of these sound protection panels stops the vibration of the metal housing while the layer of sound absorber foam substantially reduces the noise level. As there wasn't enough space to cover the entire interior surface with 30-mm panels, 10-mm thick sound-deadening panels available as special offer at the time were installed wherever there was not enough room for 30-mm panels.

Noise reduction in a garage used as work space

Sound protection measure in the garage of a company:

The garage (built from prefabricated armored concrete panels) was used for dry-ice cleaning processes. To attenuate the resulting high-frequency noise, the company had the garage completely lined with 50-mm thick soni WAVE and soni RESIST sound protection panels. For the reliable fixation of the soni WAVE panels, soniflex special adhesive was used (not suitable for PE foams, e.g. soni RESIST).

The result: The soni WAVE and soni RESIST acoustic panels absorb the high-frequency noise and reduce the noise level in the garage. The additional sound insulation effect of soni RESIST reduced the noise level outside the garage at the same time.

The result was more than satisfactory and the noise reduction effect even better than expected.

Noise reduction in a basement work space

Our client told us about a sound protection project in his basement work space:

The basement of our semi-detached house is fitted out as a carpenter’s workshop where I work in my leisure time. The different machines produce a lot of noise that makes working there unpleasant and is also audible in the rooms on the floor above.

When looking for a noise reduction solution I found the soni WAVE acoustic foam on the soniflex website. I lined the ceiling of the basement room with these acoustic panels to absorb the airborne noise produced by my carpenter's machines.

Prior to embarking on the project I asked the soniflex team for advice and they confirmed that thanks to its robustness and excellent absorption values, soni WAVE was perfectly suited for the intended application. Their additional advice: Fixing the acoustic panels on a simple framework of wooden slats instead of gluing them directly to the ceiling would further improve the noise absorption effect, especially in the low frequency range.

I decided to fix the noise reduction panels directly to the ceiling using soniflex special adhesive because this allows for some adjustment before the glue sets.
